about

“I think I initially suggested covering Wave Race to KDB back in like 2011 as a joke. Next thing you know, it’s 2016 and we’ve become an ‘80s J-fusion band concocting a Wave Race mega-medley with straight faces (and dancey hips).
I like how this medley turned out because it’s got variations of that sweet main melody beginning, middle, and end—like a Big Mac, except instead of meat patties we have Dolphin Park theme and Marine Fortress theme.
Anyway, to me this cover is all about the synths and rhythm section. The synths capture the super happy ‘80s vibe we were going for, and the rhythm section reveals how rocking the original compositions actually are. All Jake and I had to do was just mimic the N64 guitars as closely as we could B-).
HUGE thanks to Max for filling in on bass because Andre was away on tour when we tracked this!!!”
